Parentheses create a space for transition: they suspend the main discourse to open up further possibilities. They separate and connect at the same time, subverting the linearity of the dominant discourse. They interrupt continuity to introduce a deviation that is not marginal but generative. In this interval, meaning expands; positions do not stabilise but are set in motion, normally distinct elements come into contact, contaminate each other and are renegotiated.
While the conversation brought together the subjects of the art system, this edition shifts the focus to what happens between these subjects: to the intermediate spaces where roles cease to be fixed once and for all. In this sense, the 21st edition of the fair presents itself as a device in parentheses: a system that finds its strength not in closure or definition, but in its ability to remain in constant redefinition. A place where works, practices and roles remain open to interaction and the possibility of taking on different meanings depending on the relationships they activate.
Within this parenthetical dimension, the gallery establishes itself as an active curatorial practice, capable of experimenting with formats, narratives and exhibition methods. The parenthesis allows for a shift: it invites galleries to expose themselves as places of research, risk and dialogue. Value is not focused exclusively on the work as a product, but is distributed across relationships: between works, between artists, between galleries, between the public and collectors. It is in this relational fabric that the action of galleries as cultural agents, mediators and producers of meaning emerges. Parentheses make visible what normally remains in the background, shifting attention from the isolated object to the system of relationships that makes it possible.
