The Casarini Duetorrihotel Award

EMILIO GOLA WINS THE CASARINI DUETORRIHOTEL AWARD

Emilio Gola (Milan, 1994) represented by Artnoble Gallery Milan is the winner of the Casarini Duetorrihotel Prize, with his work “Self-portrait” (2021).

Now at its seventh edition, the historic project arising from the partnership between the Duetorrihotel Group and ArtVerona is open to all under-40 Italian and international figurative artists and envisages the acquisition of a work in the medium of painting.

This choice reflects the desire to commemorate Pino Casarini (1897-1972), who painted the “Equestrian Circus” in the extraordinary Arena of the same name, and the great “Tournament of the Knights of Brandenburg” on show inside the Due Torri Hotel in Verona, thereby highlighting the Group’s commitment to support research, visibility and talent among younger generations.

Two leading figures in the Italian contemporary art system accompany Giovanni Paolo (President of the Duetorrihotels Group),Franco Vanetti(General Manager, Duetorrihotels Group) and Silvano De Rosa(Director of the Due Torri Hotel, Verona) in this project and this vision: Elisabetta Barisoni, Director of Ca’ Pesaro-International Gallery of Modern Art of the Civic Museum Foundation in Venice, and Rossella Farinotti, contemporary art critic, curator and journalist, as well as executive director at the Gio’ Pomodoro Archive since 2016.

Emilio Gola, as indicated in the jury’s motivation, received the award for his “lucid and disenchanted gaze on the world and the ironic idea for this self-portrait that starts off from shoes. A courageous approach for an who is only 28 years old: as if the painting were an attempt to explain and interpret itself at one and the same time. The art of Emilio Gola, who enrolled at the Brera Academy after three years at the Polytechnic, includes friends and the atmosphere of the times. It is with other people, his peers, other young artists and his former companions at the Academy, that Gola finds daily interaction. The studio in Via Piero della Francesca that he shares with Martina, Roberto and Filippo – also excellent emerging figures – breathes the dreams and exchanges of people determined to search and find each other. The Casarini Prize for  found in Emilio Gola’s work a synthesis of its search for emerging painters.”

A special mention was also awarded to the young art dealer Matthew Noble of ArtNoble Gallery, attending the Art Show for the first time.

The jury also acknowledged the value of the two other artists exhibited by the Gallery and acquired “Trillo” (oil on canvas, 2022) by Martina Cassatella (San Giovanni Rotondo, 1996) and “Petto” (encaustic and pastels on canvas, 2021) by Roberto De Pinto (Terlizzi, Bari, 1996).
