ArtVerona presents the exhibitors of the edition celebrating its 18th anniversary, to be held at Veronafiere, from 13 to 15 October, under the direction of Stefano Raimondi, with a private inauguration event on Thursday, 12 October. 117 galleries are currently registered, including those in the Main Section, showcasing selected modern and contemporary art works, and those in the research and experimentation areas, including Innova, sponsored by Innova Group and Curated by, managed by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio. Year after year, the dialogue with ANGAMC – Associazione Nazionale Gallerie d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries) continues to grow, positioning ArtVerona as the destination for young galleries opening up to the market and, at the same time, as a respectable starting point for new projects.
The special sections include the return of LAB, curated by Giulia Floris, which presents non-profit entities in connection with institutions linked to contemporary art, and the new POV-Point of view area, curated by Edoardo Monti, which proposes a selection of key players from the world of communication in the artistic macrocosm: collectors, “influencers”, social accounts managed by collective, blogs and newspapers with a uniquely online presence, that have transformed the art world, giving artists communicative power, expanding their global impact, promoting connectivity and reshaping artistic expression. In the field of Prizes and Awards, ArtVerona strengthens its commitment through two new entries, Marval Collection, which is particularly oriented towards the voices that express the most urgent and divisive questions and themes of our time, and Premio stARTup, dedicated to young and middle-career artists (up to 50 years of age), with a coherent research path and a clearly identifiable language. Among the awards available are, once again, A Disposizione. Veronafiere for Art, Premio Display, Fondazione Coppola per Icona, A Collection, Premio Montani Tesei, Premio Casarini DueTorri Hotel, Sustainable Art Prize, MZ Costruzioni and Premio Massimiliano Galliani for Under35 Design. The protagonist of the third edition of Red Carpet is Peter Halley (New York, 1953), an international artist whose participation is part of a constant process of growth of the event, capable of involving the protagonists of contemporary art. The great work, entitled Magic Carpet, is a 400 square meters carpet installed in the Galleria dei Signori and realized in partnership with Aquafil S.p.A., one of the main players, in Italy and worldwide, in the production of synthetic fibers from recycled materials. The Area Talk is back, together with the space dedicated to publishers through an installation project by Reverse, that also involves the laboratory of the Montorio Veronese prison. It will be a place defined but readable from the outside, so as to guarantee a cozy, yet public and participatory environment during the exchange. This same ethos permeates the partnership between ArtVerona and D-HUB, a Verona-based social promotion association committed to fighting marginalization through social and work integration. The Talk Area will be the setting for Cabaret, the talk program curated by Nicolas Ballario, which seeks to overturn the concept of meetings at art fairs: no longer conferences for insiders only, but appointments with an almost theatrical flavor to put the contemporary on display.
This year ArtVerona serves, once again, as an international observatory for the Italian system, reinforcing the presence of foreign collectors with its new Visiting Collectors and inviting, through the multi-year project Visiting Curator, curated by Maria Chiara Valacchi, directors and curators of museum institutions to discover the research and artists of ArtVerona galleries. The different languages of the artists at the fair are enhanced by Standchat, curated by Saverio Verini, which promotes face-to-face meetings between the general public and the fair artists on hand at the stands of the galleries representing them. The fair spaces will host, once again, Habitat, a cultural project that pays homage to great historical Italian artists, conceived as the creation of immersive spaces capable of creating engaging models of fruition and offering visitors an unprecedented viewing experience. The pavilions of the fair will host two Habitats, Spazio Elastico (1967-1968) by Gianni Colombo, and Film Ambiente (1969) by Marinella Pirelli. In an ideal itinerary encompassing the city of Verona, and with a view to a close partnership among figures that produce and promote culture in the territory, ArtVerona and the Civic Museums of Verona with the Achille Forti Gallery of Modern Art present an unprecedented exhibition project by Giulio Paolini, curated by Patrizia Nuzzo and Stefano Raimondi, entitled Et in Arcadia Ego, open to the public from Sunday 15 October 2023 until 3 March 2024.
The 2023 program of Art&TheCity is the result of a strong bond between ArtVerona and the major local artistic and cultural institutions: kick off is due on Thursday, 12 October, with Attraverso Veronetta, an evening walk through the historical buildings of a district of Verona that is off the tourist paths, yet open to fruitful cultural encounters. There will be two appointments dedicated to great artists through the LIVES!, already tested by ArtVerona and curated by Nicolas Ballario and Rodrigo D’Erasmo, in partnership with Il Giornale dell’Arte: one on Thursday 12 October in Veronetta, with focus on the life of Louise Bourgeois and the other scheduled for Saturday 14 October, in collaboration with Hostaria, inside the Loggia di Fra’ Giocondo, telling the story of the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat in words and music. The Castel San Pietro venue will host the exhibition TOMORROWS-Notes on the future of the Earth (open to the public from Saturday 14 October to 12 November), curated by Jessica Bianchera and Marta Ferretti, a project by Fondazione Cariverona, ArtVerona, Contemporanea – Università di Verona, in collaboration with AGIVERONA, Careof, LOOP Barcelona, MA*GA Museo Arte Gallarate, Polygreen Culture & Art Initiative, Urbs Picta, followed by two DJ sets curated by Path Festival and Path sound system.
