De Buris Award edition 2022

For the third consecutive year Tommasi Wine Cellars partnered ArtVerona to promote the second edition of the De Buris Prize, the group’s high-end brand and project.
The prize went to the artistic duo of Sara Goldschmied and Eleonora Chiari – in art Goldschmied & Chiari – represented by Galleria Poggiali (Florence, Milan, Pietrasanta), with Untitled Visions/Views, part of their Untitled Views cycle – a reflective surface on which photos of smoke explosions are affixed.
“The work,” as the motivation explains, “recalls the dream of the founder of our Wine Cellar, a visionary farmer, and lends itself to various interpretations, where observers, through their reflections, become protagonists of the work itself, completing it with their own mirrored images. As you move closer, the perception of colour fades and silhouettes, mysteriously reflected between the play of light and shadow, become increasingly clear. The clouds of fumes take shape on the mirroring surface in a full-bodied way just like paint pigments on canvas and express the complicity and harmony of Goldschmied & Chiari’s work, an artistic duo by now consolidated and held in high for many years.”
The prize is open to all under-40 Italian and international visual artists and envisages the acquisition of a work which best expresses the essence of De Buris Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Docg Riserva, while highlighting the luxury of time and outlining its philosophy wherein tradition and modernity co-exist.
The theme of the award, “Finding our future by looking at the past”, will celebrate the contemporary status of a great classic of our local area territory such as its Amarone della Valpolicella red wine.
